Bipolar Disorder Support was started in 2009 by a husband and wife team who deal with this illness. Struggling with this illness in face of the stigma, we refused to be ashamed of an illness we did not ask for. We created our Facebook page to bring other families together and let them know they are not alone. Bipolar disorder is a disease that does not care about race, gender or socioeconomic status of the individuals it affects.
Much like cancer, diabetes, or high blood pressure, Bipolar Disorder is a treatable disease, however unlike other diseases, the stigma of a mental health disorder leads too many to suffer in silence and not seek proper treatment. This site is dedicated to ending that stigma.
Studies show 1 in 4 American's have been affected by mental health issues, but as President Bill Clinton stated:
Through education and awareness, we can end this stigma and bring those suffering in silence to treatment and wellness. Help us end this stigma by refusing to be silent. Bipolar is our illness but we are not our illness.
